The goal of come2CoM is to contribute to the successful implementation of the European initiative, the “Covenant of Mayors”. The project partners will reach this goal by supporting cities and local authorities within the countries of the consortium to become members of the Covenant of Mayors (CoM) and to elaborate the requested Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs). In a first step, the project partners consisting of 12 committed energy agencies and energy consulting agencies, as well as energy institutes from 11 EU countries aim to launch a promotional campaign to inform cities and local authorities on the Covenant of Mayors and to convince them to take a lead in mitigating climate change. Equipped with the translated thematic leaflet and a presentation on the CoM, posters, an exhibition stand, a short film and a sub-website on the partners’ website, com2CoM will present the CoM at national and regional events and organise personal consultations at city councils. Being involved in national and regional networks, speaking the same language as the city representatives and being on site, the come2CoM team strongly believes that with this bottom-up approach they can encourage up to 300 cities to sign the Covenant.

In a second step, come2CoM will enable signatory cities to take the first steps in setting-up their SEAP. Therefore, the partners will compile, explain and communicate suitable methodologies for the SEAP development and CO₂ inventory tools to selected CoM cities; disseminate know-how from recent best practice examples and offer guidance on choosing the right tools in respect to the individual development stage of the CoM cities within the field of climate and energy policies. Through individual consultations for exemplary cities as well as through seminars, they will in particular help to define energy efficiency and CO₂ targets, give advice on how to get support from relevant stakeholders and on how to involve them, recommend priorities and key actions and assist in time and financial planing. Besides the SEAP approved by the city council, come2CoM will provide at the end of the project a report describing the applied methodologies for SEAP development and CO₂ baseline assessment which shall facilitate the process of selecting methodologies in the future.

come2CoM also aims to encourage and enable cities in the long-term to implement actions to reduce CO₂ and other greenhouse gases and to stimulate the exchange of know-how and experience on sustainable energy and energy-saving measures through the CoM network.

The Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden strives for an increased energy efficiency and supply of renewable energy. Its work is performed within various collaborative and developmental projects from local and regional up to European level. The Agency is owned by the Association of the Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden which members consist of municipalities, county councils and regional councils in the counties of Blekinge, Kalmar and Kronoberg.

The Agency shall actively contribute to the creation of a sustainable energy system in the region, as a good example in Europe. It shall offer current, objective and impartial information and knowledge within the energy and transport sectors.

Montaione (FI) A Short Introduction

SEAP [EN] On 15 March 2012, the municipality of Montaione (supported by the come2CoM project for the development of BEI and SEAP) is to become the first municipality to receive the European Energy Award, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001. The municipality achieved the first award in January 2008 (eea) and the last on the 29th December 2011 (ISO 50001), they are part of the CoM with a submitted SEAP (November 2011) with a target of the 27% of carbon dioxide reduction.

Kommunaler Klimaschutz mit dem Konvent der Bürgermeister/innen

Am 21. März 2012 findet ab 10 Uhr im Graf-Zeppelin-Haus in Friedrichshafen das Seminar "Kommunaler Klimaschutz mit dem Konvent der Bürgermeister" statt. Vertreter aus Kommunen sind herzlich eingeladen, daran teilzunehmen.

Das Seminar wird im Rahmen des EU-Projekts „come2CoM“ stattfinden und gemeinsam von der B.&S.U. mbH, der Stadt Friedrichshafen und der Energieagentur Ravensburg organisiert.

Während des Seminars erwarten Sie Vorträge zum Thema „Energie- und Klimaschutzpolitik in der EU“, ein Beitrag des Ministers für Umwelt, Klima und Energiewirtschaft Franz Untersteller zum Thema „Energiewandel in Baden-Württemberg und die Rolle der Kommunen“, sowie Erfahrungsberichte aus Städten der Region, die dem Konvent der Bürgermeister/innen bereits beigetreten sind.

Workshop zum Konvent der Bürgermeister- Erfahrungen und Probleme in NRW

A seminar on SEAP assistance and exchange of experience will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany on 16th March 2012 (in German). The seminar is organized by the Energy Agency of North Rhine-Westphalia in the context of the IEE project come2CoM. Focusing on exchange, representatives from communities will report their first-hand experience and discuss the challenges they face. The seminar is open to all interested communities.

Seit 2008 beteiligen sich Kommunen aus Nordrhein-Westfalen am Konvent der Bürgermeister. Es ist also Zeit ein erstes Fazit zu ziehen. Im Rahmen des Projekts come2CoM veranstaltet die EnergieAgentur.NRW am 16. März 2012 in Düsseldorf einen Workshop für Konventkommunen als auch für potentielle Interessenten.
