Energy for Mayors starts from the consideration that Supporting Structures (SSt) are necessary for a successful implementation of the Covenant, but they need guidance in order to achieve their role and be an effective support, in particular, for small towns. The present action aims at creating a network of SSt through capacity building. 11 partner SuS, in Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Spain will also assist small and medium sized municipalities in the implementation of local Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs). The consortium will enlarge its networking activities to at least one SuS in each EU country and creating networks of SuS in each project country.

A survey for SuS will be conducted to identify methodologies and tools they make available for their cities and towns - to be collected and presented in the on-line Toolbox. SSt interested in participating in the survey are invited to get in touch - also to explore their involvement in the Supporting Structures Training Workshop to be held in Huelva, Spain in November 2010.

Energy for Mayors Toolbox of Methodologies

Tool / Methodology This innovative Toolbox is a growing collection of different types of resources and methodologies in many languages, addressing many different topics. It will help to centralise resources and guidance material online for those organizations giving guidance in any facet of SEAP development and implementation – also for the Covenant of Mayors (CoM). Resources include guide books, films, carbon dioxide calculators, Local Agenda 21 process guidance, and much more.

Past Events

ISO 50001 Award Ceremony
City of Moneglia
28 February 2012, Council Hall, Moneglia

The ISO 50001 certification of the City of Moneglia was obtained on 30 December 2011 and has followed the approval of the SEAP on June 2011. The integration of ISO 50001 and SEAP are among the activities of the European project Energy For Mayors and was undertaken with the support of the Province of Genova, coordinator of the Covenant of Mayors, and of Sogesca, a technical partner of the project. The ceremony of award of the certificate will be held on 28 February in the Council Hall in Monegli.

Energy Days in Dzierżoniów
24-25 September 2011, Poland

Dzierżoniów, a picturesque town in the south-west of Poland, hosted the 1^st Polish Energy Days organised within the framework of the Energy for Mayors project, together with the Association of Municipalities Polish Network “Energie Cités” (PNEC).

Held on 24 and 25 September 2011, the event was part of the XVII^th Dzierżoniów Business Presentations (XVII Dzierżoniowskie Prezentacje Gospodarcze), which aims at supporting local enterprises. Involving around 1500 participants, including representatives of local companies, NGOs, craftsmen and citizens, it helped to draw attention to the topic of sustainable energy, as well as through the excellent media coverage obtained.

All Covenant of Mayors Supporting Structures (Covenant Coordinators and Covenant Supporters) and those organisations interested in joining as Covenant of Mayors Coordinators or Supporters are invited to participate in this event. The workshop offers an occasion to meet with other Supporting Structures and with some of the key players for a successful implementation of the Covenant of Mayors as JRC. It supplies a showcase of good practices and the possibility of sharing existing experiences, solutions and tools.

Training Seminar for Supporting Structures
18-19 November 2010, Huelva (Provincial Council), Spain

A 2-day open training seminar for Supporting Structures took place on 18^th and 19^thof November 2010 in Huelva (Spain). Seminar gathered approx. 80 representatives of existing and potential SSt of the Covenant of Mayors. The aim of the event was to develop SSt capacity based on the needs identified in the recently conducted survey and to optimize assistance provided by SSt to cities and towns.

During the seminar a number of presentations were given and an interactive workshop was organised. From the presentations you can learn about the Covenant of Mayors initiative, its implementation, experiences and good practices of model Supporting Structures and financial opportunities for stakeholders engaged in the Covenant. During the interactive workshop participants exchanged ideas on how to create and operate a Supporting Structure and shared their experiences in this area.
