During EU Sustainable Energy Week 2011 (EUSEW 2011), the Energy for Mayors Toolbox of Methodologies – Climate and Energy was launched. This forms part of the project support package developed for organisations that are assisting cities and towns across Europe in developing Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs).
An innovative Toolbox created by ICLEI Europe, it is a growing collection of different types of resources and methodologies in many languages, addressing many different topics. It will help to centralise resources and guidance material online for those organizations giving guidance in any facet of SEAP development and implementation – also for the Covenant of Mayors (CoM). Resource include guide books, films, CO2 calculators, Local Agenda 21 process guidance, and much more.
The project coordinator, Dario Miroglio of the Province of Genova stresses that “SSt work is complex and we need solutions. The opportunity to easily access a full range of existing tools, methodologies and materials developed by other SSt or organisations can make the difference.”
As an entry point to the overall topic – relevant to a very broad range of activities and actors addressing the SEAP process - the website shows a cycle with typical steps relevant to SEAP development, from setting targets to monitoring and from financing actions to engaging citizens. Icons are employed to guide users to relevant elements in the Toolbox.
To ensure it further develops, users are invited to register, add other useful tools and methodologies, and evaluate resources. Based on this evaluation a ‘recommended reading list’ will be created later this year. Please visit the Toolbox: www.energyformayors.eu/toolbox. Your feedback on the overall concept and usefulness is welcome! Contact: Maryke van Staden – maryke.van.staden@iclei.org
