The City_SEC project arises from the common need to support the local and regional policy makers in order to adhere to the Covenant of Mayors and achieve its objectives, in particular, in those regions where there are few municipalities as signatories.

City_SEC aims to carry out an energy baseline assessment and develop Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAP) for 44 municipalities, thus helping them to become Sustainable Energy Communities. The 44 municipalities involved will be supported by the project Consortium to sign up to the Covenant of Mayors (CoM) initiative and to develop actions that will go beyond the 20-20-20 EU energy targets.

The activities are carried out by formalising 6 City_SECs comprising several municipalities as members and each City_SEC sharing a common strategy to reduce the CO₂ emissions and increase energy efficiency in the region. The consortium will organise training and information activities aimed at raising awareness and building capacity of City_SEC members, in particular of policy makers and civil society, on sustainable energy issues.

City_SEC will also explore the role Regional Development Agencies (RDA) can play to support the Covenant of Mayors initiative by outlining recommendations based on the experiences of the participating 5 RDAs.

Energikontor Sydost AB Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden (ESS)

The Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden strives for an increased energy efficiency and supply of renewable energy. Its work is performed within various collaborative and developmental projects from local and regional up to European level. The Agency is owned by the Association of the Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden which members consist of municipalities, county councils and regional councils in the counties of Blekinge, Kalmar and Kronoberg.

The Agency shall actively contribute to the creation of a sustainable energy system in the region, as a good example in Europe. It shall offer current, objective and impartial information and knowledge within the energy and transport sectors.

SVIM - Sviluppo Marche S.p.A.

Sviluppo Marche SpA (SVIM) is the Development Agency of the Marche Region and coordinator of the City_SEC project.

City_SEC Zero Emission Days

The Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) set up within the framework of City_SEC project, and composed of municipalities involved in Italy, Hungary, Greece, Sweden, Poland and Croatia, organized a joint initiative, “City_SEC project Zero Emission Day” on the occasion of EUSEW - EU Sustainable Energy Week 2011.

The initiative included a wide range of training, promotion and dissemination activities organized by the project partners with the involvement of municipalities that joined the City_SEC project, with the aim to sensitize and increase awareness of citizens on energy savings behaviours and promote the shift to a more sustainable lifestyle.
