Five communities sign the Covenant of Mayors during the First Pomeranian Energy Days

First Pomeranian Energy Days in Gdańsk, PolandThe First Pomeranian Energy Days under the EU Sustainable Energy Week took place on 15th to 17th April, 2011. The main organizer of the event was Pomorskie in the European Union Association, while ENNEREG Partner Baltic Energy Conservation Agency (BAPE) was one of the co-organizers.

The seminar “Environment-Technologies-Innovation” was held in the hall of the Main Library of Gdańsk University. The event, as significant for the region, was inaugurated by Mieczysław Struk, the Marshall of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, and Jan Kozłowski, member of the European Parliament. The first part of the seminar, “Current challenges of energy sector and energy policy”, was opened by Edmund Wach, President of Baltic Energy Conservation Agency, who presented new EU Directives. Representatives of the electricity company ENERGA described the pioneer initiative of Intelligent Peninsula (Hel Peninsula) – the first SMART grid region in Poland.

Gdynia, Gniewino, Hel, Kościerzyna and Władysławowo, CoM SignatoriesThe next part of the seminar focused on the ceremony of signing the accession act of Covenant of Mayors by five communes of Pomeranian Region: Gdynia, Gniewino, Hel, Kościerzyna and Władysławowo.

The CoM concept was introduced by Katarzyna Grecka from BAPE directly before signing the document.

Afterwards, two discussion panels were held:

Panel I – Renewable energy sources and energy efficiency

Panel II – Commercialization of innovation and technology transfer

The issues of energy efficiency improvement at the stages of project design and development were prepared by the team of BAPE – Katarzyna Grecka and Andrzej Szajner.

The last part of the seminar was dedicated to the future of the energy sector.

The event parallel to the seminar was the opening of "Energy House” which  offered  the opportunity to get acquainted with the devices enabling the use of renewable energy sources and methods of reducing energy consumption.

The first Pomeranian Energy Days enjoyed huge popularity. A number of news articles and interviews appeared in the local press and television.

We hope that the following year will see the next edition of Pomeranian Energy Days and the signatories of CoM will be able to share their experiences on the implementation of tasks resulting from joining this initiative.
